Encouraging Words

Dear Friends, don’t be surprised
at the fiery trials you are going through,
as if something strange were happening to you.
1 PETER 4:12 (NLT)

We may not like the fact that trials are coming, but it sure does help to cushion the blow when we know ahead of time we’re going to be pummeled. I think that is why Scripture is so forthright about predicting affliction for the believer.

It’s not being morbid or wallowing in doom and gloom; it’s simply trying to cushion the blow for us when hard times come crashing through our door. God repeatedly warns us that trials are ahead and not to be surprised when they arrive.

When you see so many similar warnings repeated throughout Scripture, you’d be wise to take note – and be prepared. While it’s true many of these warnings concern suffering of a particular type – persecution for living out the Christian faith – they also apply to any suffering we endure as we faithfully walk with Christ.

I have told you this so that you may have peace in me.
Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows.
But take heart,
because I have overcome the world.
JOHN 16:33 (NLT)
