Words of Endurance

Pharaoh said, “Who is the Lord,
That I should obey Him and let Israel go?
I do not know the Lord
And I will not let Israel go.”
EXODUS 5:2 (NIV)

ENTIRE STORY – EXODUS 5:1-23

One of the things I love about Scripture is our ability, as readers to see what’s going on behind the scenes of each story, to know how each one ends and to see how God masterfully weaves each strand together to create a masterpiece.

Take this story in Exodus, for example: Moses, the divinely chosen deliverer, had arrived on the scene. He had spoken the Lord’s words. But instead of being delivered into freedom, the Hebrews were driven deeper into despair. Their workload actually increased! Their hopes were dashed! And they didn’t have the stories of the Bible that tell, over and over again, of God’s faithfulness, power and love.

But we do. And when the circumstances of life dash our hopes and we see no way out, we can find stories in the Bible that show us God’s amazing power to turn our tragedies into triumphs and restore our hope.

Such things were written in the Scriptures
long ago to teach us.
And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement
as we wait patiently for God’s promises to be fulfilled.
