Changing your perspective
is like looking at your situation through a different lens,
like putting on a different pair of glasses.

I had been enduring an extremely difficult trial in life. For months there seemed to be no improvement or resolution. It seemed as if my prayers for a way of escape were being ignored. Finally, I decided to create my own mini-escape. I lived fairly close to the Pacific Ocean so hoping for at least a few hours of refreshment I headed toward a favorite spot – high above the crashing waves.

After parking my car, I walked toward a large, glass-enclosed observatory perched on the edge of a bluff overlooking the ocean. As I stepped inside my eyes were immediately drawn to the north window. There in the distance, I saw an approaching storm. The scene was spectacular but the clouds, fog, and restless ocean made my heart sink. A powerful rainstorm was on its way. So much for my outdoors plans.

I quickly moved to the east window. Although it was quiet in the observatory I looked out onto a noisy scene of wind-swept chaos in the parking lot. Kids, cars, and carriages scurried in all directions. Dads hastily unloaded the family gear – backpacks, cameras, binoculars and picnic baskets – as moms frantically tried to bundle up their children to protect them from the chilling wind. I couldn’t hear their frustrated words but their faces told the whole story. I didn’t watch this scene too long – it made me tired.

With relief I stepped over to the south window. Seemingly oblivious to the brisk wind and incoming mist, a young couple wrapped in a blanket sat on a small patch of weathered lawn. Their obvious affection for one another must have driven away the discomfort of the biting wind. They weren’t just taking in the view – they were experiencing it. From my sheltered viewpoint, I found myself experiencing it with them.

Other observers moved in my direction so I felt compelled to leave that heart-warming scene and take in the view from the west window. Standing alone, overlooking the immense expanse of the Pacific Ocean that stretched to the horizon, I felt unbelievably tiny. The reflection of the sun lay like a glimmering golden path on the water. I’d never seen the ocean quite like this and it brought tears to my eyes.

I closed my eyes to thank God for the awesome beauty of that place. At that moment He spoke to my heart showing me something I had never realized before. As I visually immersed myself in each view I had experienced a multitude of emotions – some positive – some not. I had experienced frustration, elation, sadness and awe yet I had not set foot outside the observatory. The only change was on which view I had chosen to focus.

How humbling it was to realize that in dealing with my personal trial I had been focusing on only one view. I had looked at the situation from only one viewpoint – finding a way out. I had not yet considered any other possibilities. That day I realized that God was far more interested in changing my perspective than in changing my circumstances.

No wonder my trial had been overwhelming. I needed a different view – a new perspective. And God in His mercy showed me that it was only a few steps away…

One ship drives east and another drives west
With the self same winds that blow.
‘Tis the set of the sails,
And not the gales,
That tells us the way to go.

Like the winds of the sea are the ways of fate
As we voyage along through life,
‘Tis the set of a soul
That decides its goal,
And not the calm, or the strife.

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good!
PSALM 118:29 (NLT)

Do you remember that wonderful praise song “Give Thanks”? It brings back such wonderful memories for me. It was August 10th, 1989 a Thursday afternoon and I was standing on the mound in Candlestick Park getting ready to pitch against the Cincinnati Reds. As I stood there all I could hear were the words of a song I was singing on my way into the ballpark that day. That song was “Give Thanks”! I can’t begin to express to all of you how special that moment was and continues to be to this day.

You see, about ten months prior to that I had been diagnosed with cancer in my left pitching arm and told, “outside of a miracle I would never pitch again”. Now as I stood there waiting for the umpire to say “Play Ball”, those wonderful words consumed my heart and mind.

“Give Thanks”
by Don Moen

Give thanks with a grateful heart
Give thanks to the Holy One
Give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ, His Son

Give thanks with a grateful heart
Give thanks to the Holy One
Give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ, His Son

And now let the weak say, “I am strong”
Let the poor say, “I am rich
Because of what the Lord has done for us”

And now let the weak say, “I am strong”
Let the poor say, “I am rich
Because of what the Lord has done for us”

Give thanks with a grateful heart
Give thanks to the Holy One
Give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ, His Son

Give thanks with a grateful heart
Give thanks to the Holy One
Give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ, His Son

And now let the weak say, “I am strong”
Let the poor say, “I am rich
Because of what the Lord has done for us”

And now let the weak say, “I am strong”
Let the poor say, “I am rich
Because of what the Lord has done for us”
Give thanks
We give thanks to You oh Lord
We give thanks

To this day, some 24 years later I still get overwhelmed when I think of this song and that moment in my life. Since then there have been many special moments when I’ve sung that song and felt so thankful for all God has done in my life through His Son, Jesus Christ!

That’s why I write this to you. Jan and I want you all to know how thankful we are for you! So many of you along the way have prayed for us, and continue to do so. So many of you have come alongside of us and encouraged us through some of the most difficult of times and continue to do so! So many of you have supported Endurance over the years and still do so! You all continue to be a constant reminder to us of God’s great love and faithfulness for us all through His Son, Jesus Christ!

As we near Thanksgiving let this be a reminder to be thankful for everything that we experience in life because God uses it all to draw us closer to His heart and through it all we will learn to trust Him more and more with all of life!!

Sing out your thanks to the Lord
PSALM 147:7 (NLT)

HAVE A WONDERFUL THANKSGIVING WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY. AND MAY I SUGGEST IF YOU’RE UP TO IT YOU JUST MIGHT WANT TO SING “GIVE THANKS” AROUND THE TABLE!

Trusting Him on the journey!

Peace, Perspectives, Words of Endurance

We’ve all seen it – the attitude that turns an athlete into a champion – that turns an ordinary soldier into a hero – that turns an entertainer into a star – that turns a failure into an honorable legacy. Those of us who are close to cancer and its survivors see it every day as well. We see the attitudes that turn wounded sufferers into survivors.

I know as well as anyone that attitude isn’t everything. It won’t turn a klutzy, uncoordinated person into a world-class athlete or an off-key singer into an American Idol. As important as attitude is, some patients with inspiring positive attitudes will succumb to their illness while others with negative attitudes will survive.

But I do know that having the positive attitude towards life – with all its pitfalls and detours – sure does help to make the journey so much easier to endure! During my bout with cancer Chuck Swindoll encouraged me in his book, Strengthening Your Grip. I learned that while I may not have a choice regarding what happens to me but I do have a choice on how I react to it. I share his observation with you so that you, too, may be encouraged – no matter what your circumstances…

ATTITUDE

The longer I live
the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.
Attitude to me is more important than facts.
It is more important than education,
than money than circumstances,
than failures, than successes,
than what other people think or say or do.
It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill.
It will make or break a company … a church … a home.
The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day
regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day.
We cannot change our past …
we cannot change the fact
that people will react in a certain way.
We cannot change the inevitable.
The only thing we can do is play on the one string
we have and that is our attitude …
I am convinced that life is 10% what happens
And 90% how I react to it.

Amen Chuck! I love this! I have kept this quote on the wall of my office for many years!

You may feel that you cannot change your attitude if you are going to be real – I understand. But I challenge you to be real before God – acknowledge that you do not have the best attitude with what you are going through. After you surrender your attitude to God – then watch Him change your attitude and experience His peace – which is beyond our understanding! The Apostle Paul encourages us by saying …

Summing it all up, friends,
I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds
and meditating on things true,
noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—
the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly;
things to praise, not things to curse.
Put into practice what you learned from me,
what you heard and saw and realized.
Do that, and God, who makes everything work together,
will work you into his most excellent harmonies.

An Awakening from Brokenness, Peace, Words of Endurance

She had a sister, Mary,
who sat before the Master,
hanging on every word he said.
But Martha was pulled away by all
she had to do in the kitchen.
Later, she stepped in, interrupting them.
“Master, don’t you care that
my sister has abandoned the kitchen to me?
Tell her to lend me a hand.”
The Master said, “Martha, dear Martha,
you’re fussing far too much
and getting yourself worked up over nothing.
One thing only is essential, and Mary has chosen it—
it’s the main course, and won’t be taken from her.”
LUKE 10:39-42 (THE MESSAGE)

I have always empathized with Martha because I am so much like her – I understand her. In fact I have often shared that I could be the poster child for Martha’s Anonymous!!! The reason? I did not know how to be still because if something needed to be done – if there were items still unchecked on my to do list – I could not just simply leave it undone and take time to be still.

It has always been difficult for me to be still and receive like Martha’s sister Mary. I am ashamed to admit that the “Mary’s” in the world really irritated me because in my mind there was always so much to be done! But looking back I think that deep down I was jealous of those “Mary’s” who could block out all the “to dos” and choose the “one thing only that is essential … the main course.”

I actually had to force myself to have a quiet time. And whenever I would take time to be still before God I would struggle to keep my mind from wandering and thinking about all that needed to be done that day. I believe I had never known how to take time to be still, rest and restore my soul. I had never learned to …

“Step out of the traffic!
Take a long, loving look at me,
your High God,
above politics, above everything.”
PSALM 46:10 (THE MESSAGE)

So when I found myself burned out – broken and weak once again – I knew that I needed to – I was desperate to – change the course of my life and I knew that I certainly did not know how to do it myself. That would require help from someone other than me – once again I sought the counsel of a wise Christian Counselor.

Form your purpose by asking for counsel,
then carry it out using all the help you can get.
PROVERBS 20:18 (THE MESSAGE)

And oh how God spoke through the wisdom of my Christian Counselor. She showed me that my first step was to go back to the basics and learn to quiet my soul before God. She taught me the benefit of contemplative prayer and learning to listen to God. And through her guidance and the Holy Spirit I learned to “Be still and know that (He) is God.”

When I was beleaguered and bitter,
totally consumed by envy,
I was totally ignorant, a dumb ox
in your very presence.
I’m still in your presence,
but you’ve taken my hand.
You wisely and tenderly lead me,
and then you bless me.
PSALM 73:21-24 (THE MESSAGE)

Discovering Who I Am, Healing, Peace, Words of Endurance

“God judges persons differently than humans do.
Men and women look at the face;
God looks into the heart.”
1 SAMUEL 16:7 (THE MESSAGE)

I have learned that the masks that I wore were pretty much useless because God bypasses any mask that we wear and goes straight for the heart. After all Jesus did say to the Apostle John on the Island of Patmos that …

… appearances don’t impress me.
REVELATION 2:23 (THE MESSAGE)

So even though the Scriptures share that …

The heart is hopelessly dark and deceitful,
a puzzle that no one can figure out.
JEREMIAH 17:9 (THE MESSAGE)

We can feel safe with God and trust that as He searches our “dark and deceitful” hearts that He will get to the “root of things” if our hearts need changing …

But I, God, search the heart
and examine the mind.
I get to the heart of the human.
I get to the root of things.
I treat them as they really are,
not as they pretend to be.”
JEREMIAH 17:9-10 (THE MESSAGE)

And He will give us a “new heart” as He has promised …

I’ll give you a new heart.
I’ll put a new spirit in you.
I’ll cut out your stone heart
and replace it with a red-blooded, firm-muscled heart.
Then you’ll obey my statutes
and be careful to obey my commands.
You’ll be my people! I’ll be your God!
EZEKIEL 11:19-20 (THE MESSAGE)

And then there will be no need for any mask because our hearts will reflect what He is doing in our hearts …

Just as water mirrors your face,
so your face mirrors your heart.

Discovering Who I Am, Healing, Peace, Words of Endurance

Whenever, though, they turn to face God as Moses did,
God removes the veil and there they are—face-to-face!
They suddenly recognize that God
is a living, personal presence,
not a piece of chiseled stone.
And when God is personally present, a living Spirit,
that old, constricting legislation is recognized as obsolete.
We’re free of it! All of us!
Nothing between us and God,
our faces shining with the brightness of his face.
And so we are transfigured much like the Messiah,
our lives gradually becoming brighter and more beautiful
as God enters our lives and we become like him.
2 CORINTHIANS 3:16-18

I have only recently discovered that a major step in maturing is that I must discard the masks that I have developed and worn through the years. I did not honestly know that I wore any masks because through the years I have been more than open about my own personal struggles but the truth is that we all wear masks – all for different reasons.

I personally have developed these masks not only to protect myself from being truly known but to protect others and even to protect God from who I truly am. I have discovered that behind my mask of strength and confidence is a root of fear and self-doubt. Feeling shame and not wanting anyone to know this part of me I have used anger as a way of steering others away – enabling me to hide those fears of failure, inadequacy and frustration.

“That’s why revealing the origins of our masks is so important.
We need to see ourselves objectively within our story,
to see what drives the responses tripping us up.
Our controlling behavior is rarely random.
It’s triggered by unresolved junk,
and if we begin to understand the process of unresolved sin,
we may no longer react to each new provocation
like lemmings sprinting for the nearest cliff.
Our masks are a symptom, not a root cause,
a fever indicating a raging infection deep inside.
We must expose this dark dynamic compelling us to protect ourselves.”
THE CURE (JOHN LYNCH, BRUCE MCNICOL, BILL THRALL)

How freeing it is to know who I truly am does not need to be hidden in the dark behind a mask but it needs to be brought out into the light and the “brightness of His face “– fully exposed – so that I may be healed and “transfigured much like the Messiah.”

How awesome is it that “God removes the veil” – the masks – and there we are – “face to face” with Him! There is to be “nothing between us and God” and what is even more awesome is that He is “personally present” – we are fully known by Him – He knows us inside out and yet He still loves us. Oh how great and unfathomable is the Grace of God!

Discovering Who I Am, Hope, Peace, Words of Endurance

We know very well that we are not set right
with God by rule-keeping
but only through personal faith in Jesus Christ.
How do we know?
We tried it—and we had the best system of rules
the world has ever seen!
Convinced that no human being
can please God by self-improvement,
we believed in Jesus as the Messiah
so that we might be set right before God
by trusting in the Messiah,
not by trying to be good.
GALATIANS 2:15-16

Being by nature a “rule keeper” it was very easy for me to adapt to following God’s rules when I became a Christian. My heart’s desire was to please God by following His rules. I actually believed that …

More right behavior + Less wrong behavior = Godliness
THE CURE
BY JOHN LYNCH, BRUCE MCNICHOL, BILL THRALL

I don’t know about you but this formula did not work for me. Unfortunately, I was frustrated time and time again because of my inability to achieve Godliness by my own efforts. That frustration only resulted in anger towards those I loved and especially myself. I did not realize that my self-effort was fruitless because …

If I was “trying to be good,”
I would be rebuilding the same old barn that I tore down.
I would be acting as a charlatan.
GALATIANS 2:18

Oh I tried so hard to rebuild my old barn but finally, after years and years of failed attempts to be Godly only of late have I learned that …

We can never resolve our sin by working on it.
We may externally sublimate behavior but
we’re essentially repositioning the chairs a bit
on the deck of a sinking ship.
When we strive to sin less, we don’t.
THE CURE BY JOHN LYNCH, BRUCE MCNICHOL, BILL THRALL

WHAT A RELIEF! The truth I learned was that I would achieve His righteousness by trusting in God and knowing that I am set right before Him – not by what I have done or will do – but by what Christ has done for me in His death and resurrection. This truth has set me free from shame of my failed self-improvement project and allowed me to trust that it is only through Christ living in me that I will mature in Godliness.

So I quit being a “law man” so that I could be God’s man.
Christ’s life showed me how, and enabled me to do it.
I identified myself completely with him.
Indeed, I have been crucified with Christ.
… Christ lives in me.
The life you see me living is not “mine,”
but it is lived by faith in the Son of God,
who loved me and gave himself for me.
I am not going to go back on that.
Is it not clear to you that to go back
to that old rule-keeping, peer-pleasing religion
would be an abandonment of everything
personal and free in my relationship with God?
I refuse to do that, to repudiate God’s grace.
If a living relationship with God could come by rule-keeping,
then Christ died unnecessarily.
GALATIANS 2:19-21 (THE MESSAGE)

Discovering Peace, Healing, Peace, Words of Endurance

What Can We Do to Seek Peace?

“…seek peace and pursue it.”
PSALM 34:14

Trust God – The Scriptures assure us that those who trust God will have peace.

You will keep in perfect peace
those whose minds are steadfast,
because they trust in you.
ISAIAH 26:3

Obey God – Peace is a by-product of obedience.

Strive for full restoration, encourage one another,
be of one mind, live in peace.
And the God of love and peace will be with you.
2 CORINTHIANS 13:11

Depend on God – We can’t possibly walk with God – much less obey Him – in our own strength or by our own efforts. Jesus said …

“Apart from me you can do nothing.”
JOHN 15:5

Jesus Himself relied on God during His earthly ministry. If Jesus had to rely on God – how can we do less? Jesus said …

“I do nothing on my own”
JOHN 8:28

Learn About God – As we spend time in the Scriptures we learn more about God and His character. That knowledge not only helps us better understand God, it will produce peace.

Great peace have those who love your law,
and nothing can make them stumble.
PSALM 119:165

Walk in Godly Wisdom – God wants us to walk in His wisdom. He instructs us to ask Him for wisdom and promises to give it to us when we do.

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you.
JAMES 1:5 (NLT)

Peace is a result of walking in Godly wisdom.

Blessed are those who find wisdom,
those who gain understanding,
Her ways are pleasant ways,
and all her paths are peace.
PROVERBS 3:13,17

Make Peace a Priority – God wants us to pursue peace in all our relationships with others. When peace is our goal we are less likely to do things that cause dissension and disrupt our peace.

If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.
ROMANS 12:18

Hand Our Concerns to God – Presenting our concerns to God is a prerequisite to receiving His Peace.

Do not be anxious about anything,
but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving,
present your requests to God.
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding,
will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
PHILIPPIANS 4:6-7

Abide with God – When we consciously decide moment by moment to invite God into our thoughts – when look expectantly for His presence regardless of our circumstances – when we talk to Him heart to heart throughout the day – when we trust He is with us even when we don’t feel His presence – we are “abiding” with God. Jesus promised to give His peace when we abide in Him. Jesus said …

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.”
JOHN 16:33

Discovering Peace, Peace, Words of Endurance

Peter, suddenly bold, said,
“Master, if it’s really you, call me to come to you on the water.”
He said, “Come ahead.”
Jumping out of the boat, Peter walked on the water to Jesus.
But when he looked down at the waves churning beneath his feet,
he lost his nerve and started to sink. He cried, “Master, save me!”
Jesus didn’t hesitate. He reached down and grabbed his hand.
MATTHEW 14:24-31 (THE MESSAGE)

The story of Jesus walking on the stormy waters of the Sea of Galilee and calling Peter toward Him is one of Jesus’ best-known miracles. It is a powerful image and it represents so vividly the choice we have when we face the storms of life.

I’ve spent my fair share of time sinking beneath the storms of life. At one time I thought it was impossible to have peace in the midst of a storm. But like Peter, I’ve learned that I don’t have to succumb to the storms of life. I have learned that I can be at peace even in the midst of the most terrible storm. I can be at peace because I can safely place my hope in Jesus my savior, who is greater than any storm and He is faithful.

But I am no spiritual giant – my peace ebbs and flows. Just because I can choose to focus on Jesus does not mean I always make that choice initially. To be honest, I hate surprises. I like to be prepared. So when a storm hits and I am blindsided – it initially throws me for a loop. When the shock wave hits me – I worry – I am afraid – I get angry – then I feel guilty. I experience a whole list of peace busters. But I have learned that I don’t have to stay there and continue to sink. I can choose to change my focus from the storm to my Savior.

The Scriptures say we are going to have troubles in life (John 16:33) but they also give promises related to those troubles. So when I am sinking into despair the first thing I do is choose to remember the promises of God. I go through the mental exercise of remembering God’s promises. I recall DEUTERONOMY 31:8.

“Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD will personally go ahead of you.
He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.”

I read ISAIAH 43:1-3 so that I can be reminded that I am not alone in the storm because God promises to walk beside us through our trials.

“Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you.
I have called you by name; you are mine.
When you go through deep waters,
I will be with you.
When you go through rivers of difficulty,
you will not drown.
When you walk through the fire of oppression,
you will not be burned up;
the flames will not consume you.
For I am the LORD, your God,
the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.”

The words of PHILIPPIANS 1:6 assure me that God will not abandon me and that He will continue to work in me.

And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you,
will continue his work until it is finally finished
on the day when Christ Jesus returns.

And when I feel weak and vulnerable I focus my thoughts on JOHN 10:27-29 and know that nothing and no one can snatch me from His hand. He is holding me.

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
I give them eternal life, and they will never perish.
No one can snatch them away from me,
for my Father has given them to me, and he is more powerful than anyone else.
No one can snatch them from the Father’s hand.

Those promises are the first things I call to mind. They remind me of what is true about God and my relationship with Him. Next – I remember past storms and what I have experienced in my walk with God – His faithfulness to me.

As I recall the “monuments of God’s faithfulness”, I can see that some of the biggest storms of my life – storms I never would have chosen – have turned out to be the biggest blessing in my life. By focusing on these “monuments” I am reminded that any challenge that I may face – no matter how difficult or painful – it is not the end of the story.

When I start focusing on God rather than on the current storm – no matter how bad it is – an amazing peace overcomes me and I am able to walk through the storm. This does not mean my situation improves or my pain goes away. It simply means I have peace in the midst of the storm. I have peace because I have hope. I have hope because God is trustworthy. I can trust His promises. I know He will be faithful to do what He says He will do.

We are imperfect human beings. For those who call themselves Christians – learning to focus on God and give Him control is our lifelong pursuit. Peace is an overflow – a byproduct of our relationship with Him. It is available to the weakest of us in the midst of any storm. We can be assured …

The faithful love of the LORD never ends!
His mercies never cease.
Great is his faithfulness;
his mercies begin afresh each morning.
I say to myself, “The LORD is my inheritance;
therefore, I will hope in him!”
LAMENTATIONS 3:22-24 (NLT)

Anxiety, Discovering Peace, Peace, Words of Endurance

*Divine Disconnection – God is the source of Peace, so when I don’t have a relationship with Him – when I don’t spend time with Him through prayer, worship, meditation or experience Him through Scripture – I’ve unplugged myself from the source of peace.

You will keep in perfect peace
all who trust in you,
all whose thoughts are fixed on you!
ISAIAH 26:3 (NLT)

*Wrong Reliance – When I trust in my own ability, in my own strength to overcome or deal with my problems more that I trust God with my situation – I won’t experience peace or God’s blessing.

This is what the LORD says:
“Cursed are those who put their trust in mere humans,
who rely on human strength
and turn their hearts away from the LORD.
They are like stunted shrubs in the desert,
with no hope for the future.
They will live in the barren wilderness,
in an uninhabited salty land.”
JEREMIAH 17:5-6 (NLT)

*Worry-Warting – When Peter bailed out of the boat to be with Jesus (Matthew 14:24-32), he walked on water just fine until he focused on the waves around him. As soon as he took his eyes off Jesus and focused on the surrounding storm, he sank like a rock. When my focus is on my surrounding circumstances, worry takes over and my peace will sink out of sight too.

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything.
Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.
Then you will experience God’s peace,
which exceeds anything we can understand.
His peace will guard your hearts
and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
PHILIPPIANS 4:6-7

*Consuming Conflicts – Human relationships are important to God. Jesus told us to treat to others the way we want to be treated (Matthew 7:12) and to resolve our conflicts with others before we pray or offer service to God (Matthew t:23-24). When we have unresolved conflict in our relationships – our relationship with God suffers – which disconnects us from our source of peace.

Work at living in peace with everyone …
HEBREWS 12:14 (NLT)

*Refusal to Release – God promises His peace to those who present their requests to Him. When I don’t hand my problems over to God, He can’t hand His peace offer to me.

I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people.
Ask God to help them;
intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them.
Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority
so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives
marked by godliness and dignity.
1 TIMOTHY 2:1-2 (NLT)

*Borderline Behavior – Righteousness or right behavior produces peace. The two are inseparable. When I mess up – hurt someone – or do something I know is wrong – my peace evaporates like water in the desert.

Oh, that you had listened to my commands!
Then you would have had peace flowing like a gentle river
and righteousness rolling over you like waves in the sea.
ISAIAH 48:18 (NLT)

*Detrimental Direction – God’s peace is supposed to “rule” in my heart. When His peace disappears – it is like a warning light telling me something is wrong. I may be heading in a wrong direction or considering a detrimental course of action.

And let the peace that comes from Christ
rule in your hearts.
For as members of one body you are called to live in peace.
And always be thankful.
COLOSSIANS 3:15 (NLT)
